Sitting within the historic United States Military Academy installation at West Point and surrounded by the natural beauty of northern New York State, Michie Stadium attracts thousands of visitors every year to watch the Black Knight football and lacrosse squads in competition. It is, however, much more than an intercollegiate athletic venue. Each competition at Michie Stadium provides college sports fans and all United States citizens who attend games the opportunity to witness the pride, discipline and stature of the foundation of the Academy and the US Army — The West Point Cadet.

Every game is preceded by a formal march-on of a regiment of cadets onto the field.  We have chosen to focus our proposed design of the new Michie Stadium East Addition around this foundation. In our design, the cadets will match through four major spaces in sequence: The Approach, Cadet Celebration Plaza, The Great Hall, and The Field. Architecture and landscape works seamlessly together to define these four spaces. Along the path, visitors will be in close proximity with the matching cadets, and has the options of either standing on the sides, or overlook the cadets matching, creating unique game-day experience that can only be found at West Point.

The granite base and two towers speaks back into the architectural tradition of West Point campus. The “light bar”, consisting of large area of glass facade and large span structure, ensures maximum visual transparency that connects the stadium to the beautiful scenery to the east: Lusk Reservoir and Hudson River. During the late afternoon and evening, the building will glow from within, as a modern version of the ornate stained glass so prominent across the Central Post. When it is seen from the east bank of Lusk Reservoir, it creates a breathtaking image that is all at once traditional, contemporary and above all,  uniquely West Point.

花岗岩材质的基座和两个塔楼，他们完成了与西点校园建筑历史的对话。“光之栅”则具有大面积玻璃立面和大跨度结构，保证了最大程度的视觉通透，连接运动场和东边优美的风景：Lusk水库和哈德逊河。傍晚和夜晚时分，建筑将会从内部释放光芒，如同现代版本的哥特式彩绘玻璃，再一次与西点校园历史建筑交相呼应。从Lusk水库东岸观赏，它创造了既传统，又当代，并为西点所独有的美妙图画。
